Your first server in 5 minutes
How to order, log in, start your server and get your friends playing.
Before you start
You need a Minecraft Java Edition account. Your server runs in London with DDoS protection, so there is nothing to install on your own computer.
Steps
- Order a plan. Pick a Krill plan on the plans page. If you are unsure how much RAM you need, read the RAM guide first. You can change plan later.
- Log in to the panel. Open the game panel. First time: use the Set your panel password button on the page after payment or in your welcome email, or choose Forgot password and use the email you paid with. This is the control panel where you manage everything.
- Open your server. Click your server on the dashboard. You will see the console, the power buttons and a list of pages on the left.
- Start it. Press Start. The first start takes a little longer because the world is being created.
- Accept the EULA. If the console says you need to agree to the Minecraft EULA, the panel shows a prompt. Read it, accept it, then press Start again. If you do not see a prompt, open the Files page and check that
eula.txtsayseula=true. - Wait for "Done". When the console prints a line saying the server is done, it is ready.
- Join the game. In Minecraft Java Edition choose Multiplayer, then Add Server, paste an address, save it and join. There are two ways to write it:
- By name:
yourname.krillcloud.com. No port needed. It is in your welcome email and on your account page. - By IP:
IP:PORT, for example203.0.113.5:25565, using the IP and port shown in the same places and on the Console page. Some launchers and server lists want the IP, and then you must include the port.
Server Settings basics
The Server Settings page gives you plain switches for the common server.properties options, so you do not need to edit the file by hand. Start the server once first, so the settings file exists. Useful ones to look at first:
- Server name (shown in the server list). The text players see under your server's name.
- Max players. How many people can be online at once.
- Only allow players on the whitelist. Turn it on if you only want friends to join.
- Difficulty and Game mode for new players.
- Players can fight each other (PvP). Switch player fighting on or off.
- View distance (chunks). Lower it if the server feels slow.
Press Save settings, then restart the server so the changes take effect.
Choosing your server software
New servers start on Paper unless you picked something else when you ordered. Change it any time with the Jar Picker. Paper is a good choice for most plugin servers. See installing plugins, mods and modpacks.
Tips
- Make yourself an operator by typing
op yournamein the console. - Take a manual backup before you change anything big. The daily backup runs on its own, but a fresh one before big changes is worth it (see Backups).
- Stuck? Open a ticket in the panel or use the contact form.
Did this not solve it? Real person, no bots. Tickets are answered by whoever runs KrillCloud, usually within a few hours and always within 24 hours. Get support.
